Background
Established in 2003 as ‘Nepali Prakashan Parishad, Assam’ (Registration No.: RS/KAM/240/v/286 of 2004/05) the organization has been actively engaged in publishing books, calendar, dairies and doing literary initiatives related to the Nepali language in Assam. To expand its scope and strengthen its institutional framework, the organization was formally renewed and reconstituted on November, 7/2025 and renamed as Nepali Bhasha Sanskriti Manch (NBSM) under registration No.: RS/KAM(M)/263/RFS – Regn. of Society / 202516276 (2025–2026)
Our Legacy
Under the former identity as Nepali Prakashan Parishad, Assam it successfully
implemented several initiatives, notable being:
1. An international seminar titled ‘Preparation of Roadmap for Institutional-level Nepali
Dictionary & Encyclopaedia from India’ held on November 6-7, 2022 in Gauhati
University.
2. Publication of a Nepali-Assamese-English dictionary in collaboration with
M/s. Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art & Culture, Assam (ABILAC) in
2022.
3. An ‘International Literary Seminar’ was organized at the Guwahati Press Club, Ambari
wherein Prof. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai delivered a profound lecture titled “Nepali
Literature in the Context of World Literature’ as a chief Guest in April 27/2022 at 3:00
PM. Mr Bijay Hitan from London spoke on the topic ‘Resonating with Parya Literature –
Blue Planet and Parishraant Prithibi’ as the Guest of Honour. The auditorium was filled
with more than 100 literature lovers from Guwahati.
4. In 2013, when the Government of Assam announced the TET examination for Sixth
Schedule areas, the Nepali subject was initially excluded. At that time, Nepali Prakashan
Parishad-Assam submitted a written objection and request, after which the Sarvashiksha
Mission included the Nepali language in the TET examination.
5. NPP organized a national seminar entitled “Nepali Education in Assam: Problems and
Solutions” at Shilpgram, Panjabari, Guwahati on January 29/2012.
6. For the first time in history, Nepali Prakashan Parishad-Assam set up a Nepali book stall
at the state Book Fair organized by Asom Prakashan Parishad at Chanmari, Guwahati in
7. Similarly, the Parishad also set up a Nepali book stall during the joint convention
of Asam Nepali Sahitya Sabha and Nepali Sahitya Parishad-Assam at Amelighat.
8. NPP published Nepali Sanskritik Shabdakosh (Nepali Annotated Cultural Vocabulary) in
collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore (under the
Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India) in 2011.
9. Publication of the memorial volume for the Lauha Purush Prem Singh Subedi in 2007.
10. During the tenure the Nepali Prakashan Parishad-Assam organized a total of four
conventions. The first convention was held in 2004 in Narangi, Guwahati. The second
convention was held in 2006 in Boko, Kamrup rural district. The third convention was
the most significant and was organized on November8-9/2009 in Lakhimpur. The fourth
convention concluded on September 22/2013 in the Seminar Hall of Srimanta
Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati. On this occasion, the digital version (CD) of famous
Basain novel was launched.
11. Publication of Wall-calendars and Diaries featuring photos of Adikavi Bhanubhakta
Acharya, Durga Malla and Nepali freedom fighters from Assam such as Chhabilal
Upadhyaya, Dalbir Singh Lohar and others (2004 to 2006).
12. Publication of Telephone directory (Land-line) in 2006.
13. In 2006, the NPP prepared syllabus for the subject of Nepali for Class III-VII in the
schools of Assam.
14. Conferring the ‘Prem Singh Subedi Smriti Puraskar’ and ‘Shankarpuri SmritiPuraskar’ to
successful Nepali personalities from various fields.
Our Aims and Objectives
Nepali BhashaSanskritiManch (NBSM)is committed to the preservation, promotion, and advancement of Nepali language, literature and culture. Its key objectives include:
1.The Nepali Bhasha Sanskriti Manch while protecting and promoting our language, literature, and culture, provides a common platform for the creative minds to present their creations in a bigger platform.
2. It facilitates exchange of constructive ideas in linguistic and cultural arenas by building an environment conducive for creativity.
3. It contributes to the development of human values, tolerance and social awareness by attracting the new generation to various literary activities.
4. It builds pathways for the dissemination of culture by consulting with all forums or individuals related to our culture.
Key Programs and planned initiatives
NBSM’s planned and ongoing initiatives include:
1. To publish an anthology. Initially to include the poets from Kamrup to publish ‘Kamrup Kavita’ (Kamrup Poetry).
2. To prepare ‘Mr Dal Bahadur Chhetri Abinandan Grantha’.
3. To Conduct interviews with successful Nepali-speaking individuals from Kamrup, compile them, and release in the form of video album.
4. Our rituals and culture need to be standardized. They should be genuine with no distortions or adulteration. Regarding this, NBSM will consult relevant institutions/organizations and individual experts to formulat a guideline.
5. NBSM will create a ‘database’ that includes individuals from our society connected with literature and culture, as well as those who have achieved name and fame in various professions such as business, sports, music, etc., along with Faculties from colleges and universities. Through this, it will facilitate networking for the exchange of ideas among intellectuals, educators, and successful individuals.
6. NBSM to run a ‘Student Guidance Program’ from time-to-time. For this purpose, the forum will form group of students, organize seminars/group discussions, and career- counselling/guidance on education, skills, language & culture.
7. NBSM will contact the government agencies and pursue for conducting programs related to Nepali literature and culture, and also to participate in various government programs as and when necessary.
8. To publish the ‘Memorandum’ submitted on our behalf to the Justice Biplab Sharma Committee under Clause 6 of the Assam Accord (1985).
9. On the NBSM platform, various cultural activities related to Dr.Bhupen Hazarika after adapting into Nepali format and shall be taken to various districts of Assam, as well as to Sikkim, Dehradun, and Kathmandu also incorporating our own culture. To do this, NBSM will contact relevant departments of the Assam Government for financial grants.
